Who are we

Western Suburbs District Cricket Club, “Wests Magpies”, is part of the Sydney Cricket Association (SCA) Grade Competition.  Based at the picturesque and historic Pratten Park in Ashfield, the Club was founded in 1895 and has a proud tradition of success, especially in the development of many fine players. The Club fields teams in the SCA 1st–5th Grade, Poidevin-Gray Shield (PG's) and A.W. Green Shield (under 16) competitions.

A large number of Test players including all-time greats such as Alan Davidson, Bob Simpson, Gary Gilmour and Greg Matthews have played their Grade Cricket with the mighty Magpies. The Wests Green Shield Squad was the starting point for other wonderful Australian representatives including Dirk Wellham, Steve Rixon, Greg Dyer and Adam Gilchrist. Former Australian Captain Michael Clarke came to Wests at only 13 years of age and remains heavily involved at the Club whenever his international commitments allow. The late Opening Bat Phillip Hughes and rising-star Pace Bowler Mitch Starc were the latest Magpies to be called up for national duties.

Phillip passed away 2014 as a result of a tragic accident at the SCG. RIP mate.

Indeed, Wests can rightly claim to be Australia’s leading Club, having produced more players who have gone on to represent our country than any other Club – an unrivalled heritage!
