Jono Cook

19th February 2018

1st Grade Captain & leg spinner Jono Cook's 5/85 v Penrith in Round 13 took his wicket tally for the season to 50. He is the leading wicket-taker in the Sydney Premier Cricket competition, averaging just 15.4 runs per wicket.

The last Wests 1st Grade bowler to achieve this feat was fast bowler Dan Horsley 20 years ago in the 1997/98 season. Jono's performance also took him to 100 1st Grade wickets since making his debut for the Club in January 2016.

Jono's 5/85 was his fifth 5 wicket haul of the season & puts him in esteemed company. He is the first leg spinner since Stuart MacGill in 1995/96 to achieve this in the Sydney 1st Grade competition.

An extraordinary statistic of Jono's 50 wickets is that 33 have been bowled (18) & lbw (15).

With 2 Rounds remaining, Jono has the opportunity to go even higher & put himself amongst the Club's Greats:

80 - Wally Walmsley 1942/43

66 - Wally Walmsley 1944/45

65 - Selby Burt 1939/40

60 - Selby Burt 1935/36

58 - George Garnsey 1905/06

57 - Peter Ferguson 1973/74

Congratulations Jono on a fantastic achievement!
