Match Summary Round2

7th October 2017

2nd Grade:

After winning the toss on a shinny hard pratten park wicket on day 1, Wests opening pair started the day well still at the crease for the first drinks break of the day.

Slowly and steadily wests compiled runs throughout the day, scoring 71 in the first session and a further 92 in the second session to be 4-163 at tea.

With wickets in hand the last session saw a few boundaries to finish the day 7/279. Connor Jackson starred for Wests with the bat. He was at the crease almost 5 hours for a well controlled 124, his first century as a magpie.

Day two began with a further 28 added to wests total, leaving Gordon with 307 to win. A stead start to the innings by Gordon followed by Wests taking back to back wickets at 70 run intervals saw the game in the balance at 6-214. Besides an inspired and fiery spell from Quinccy Titterton, the Gordon number 7 and 8 batsmen batted well to close out the match for Gordon with a 95 run partnership

5th Grade:

Batting first, Wests made a decent start however wickets started to fall with relative consistency, putting some pressure on the middle order.

Making their Grade debuts, Antony Eussen and Brock Fitton batted well, building a mini fightback however when Eussen fell for 21, Wests were 6/135.  Some late partnerships with skipper Marsh enabled Wests to build a competitive 9/252.

Unfortunately, we weren't able to apply consistent pressure with the ball which enabled Gordon to build big partnerships early. Fielding was also patchy and needs to be improved if we are to be considered Grade standard.

Wickets to Marsh and Sharma put some pressure on the Gordon middle order however unfortunately in the end our failure to capture early wickets again meant a competitive defeat.
